Gomez - Internet Performance Management Specialist Expands To Germany

Gómez opens office in Hamburg to assist German businesses with the optimization of their Internet usage; initial customers and partnership with renowned IT consulting firm Avinci announced

HAMBURG, GERMANY, 13 April 2004 -- Gómez®, Inc., the Internet Performance Management Company, today announced its continued expansion in Europe with the opening of an office in Germany to better address the needs of local companies and multi-nationals doing business in the country. Gómez, with headquarters in Waltham, MA, USA and offices in London, provides hosted application services that help organizations continuously improve the performance of their Internet applications. The Gómez Performance Network (GPN) brings increased discipline to the Internet Performance Management (IPM) process by proactively identifying performance bottlenecks from behind the firewall, the Internet's backbone and actual end-user PCs before they impact business effectiveness.

After opening an office in London last year, Gómez has seen demand grow for its services across the entire European continent. To get closer to the needs of German clients, and to make IPM services delivery more effective, the company's subsidiary has decided to open an office in Hamburg.

"After our success in Great Britain with customers like BBC and Visa we have made a commitment further growth in Europe," explained Matt Bartell, Vice President, Gómez Europe. "Our team in Germany has a great deal of experience in the IPM space, which will no doubt help organizations more continuously improve the delivery of Internet services to meet their strategic objectives."

The German team offers consulting and support services tailored to the needs of local customers. "We want to guarantee that our European customers are taken care of on short distance," Bartell said. "Our initial German customers, like Lastminute travel-specialist L'tur or the car portal Autoscout24, show that this is recognized by the market."

As further proof of its market validation, Gómez has signed its first partnership in Germany with the renowned IT consultancy Avinci. "We offer customers high-class application management services with Service Level Agreements on the basis of real business transactions," said Tilmann Eing, Senior Consultant at Avinci. "The partnership with Gómez enables us to continuously monitor these SLAs from a real end-user perspective on the Internet. This allows us to document our service-quality through an independent party -- not only for our customers but also in the sales process."

Gómez is backed by five renowned investment companies, among them the Deutsche Bank and Hypo-Vereinsbank's AdAstra. "In Gómez, we see a company delivering superior technology in the Internet performance management space, a company with an excellent track record," noted AdAstra investment-manager Dr. Marc Breitfeld.

Unlike rivals, Gómez has placed performance measurement software worldwide on about 10,000 real users' computers. This patent pending network of "peers" can be leveraged in combination with internal and backbone measurements taken at Gómez managed nodes to clearly pinpoint the cause and location of performance bottlenecks.

"A purely internal measurement as exercised by 'classical' performance monitoring software is not sufficient for monitoring the performance of Web applications, because bottlenecks exacerbated by third-party content providers, Internet access providers and/or last-mile bandwidth constraints are not recognized. To overcome this, Gómez services combine performance measurements from behind the firewall to the last mile," noted Gómez Consultant Petra Vogt.
